Scent Survey: Andrew Marks

Winemaker, gin maker.
If you were to judge Andrew Marks purely by the number of projects he has on at once, you might think he’s a distractible kind of guy. He makes wines in the Yarra Valley for his own label, The Wanderer and in the Emporda wine region, north of Barcelona, for its Spanish twin, El Wanderer. He’s co-winemaker at his family winery, Gembrook Hill, and when he’s not making gin under the name The Melbourne Gin Company (MGC) he’s delivering his luminous booze to wine shops around town. All this action is a sign of focus rather than flippancy, though. Andrew Marks makes wine and gin and he does these two things in an accomplished way: with a lot of sincerity and more than a bit of Martini-like balance.
